Materials Testing & Quality Assurance

Introduction

Jacobs provides a comprehensive range of services in materials consulting, inspection, testing and quality assurance. Expertise is available to deal with civil, structural and building materials including geology and mineralogy, soils and aggregates, concrete and its constituents, steel and other metals, bitumen and asphaltic materials, bricks, tiles and other ceramics.

Quality Assurance, which we vigorously pursue within our own organisation, can also form part of the service offered. We can assist with the formulation of Quality Systems and the production of Quality Manuals, Operating Procedures and other documentation. We can assist with obtaining accreditation and act as third party auditors of a system once in place.

Projects

Daido ISO9001 Certification, Hong Kong

Client: Daido Concrete (HK) Ltd

We were appointed by Daido Concrete (HK) Ltd to provide advice on matters relating to the ISO9001 certification by HKQAA of their S.S. pile production. The scope of work includes a review of the existing quality system, development of quality documentation, overseeing system implementation and internal audit and organizing the certification audit.

Professional Material Testing, Hong Kong

Client: Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Government

Jacobs together with Messrs Sandberg were appointed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority as one of 3 consultants firms to manage their Professional Materials Testing Service, over a 3 year period. PMTS covered sampling and testing to the appropiate authoriatative standard, reporting results, analyses and statistical trends and advising HKHA on testing programmes, and actions in the event of test failures. PMTS also covered the implementation of quality standards to ISO 9000 in the testing laboratories and site testing procedures. As part of the service, we set up computerised databases to manage the huge numbers of test results involved. Sandberg Jacobs were also responsible for a programme of calibration of HKHA equipment as a specialist task under PMTS.

Precast Factory Inspection

Client: Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Government

We were appointed by Hong Kong Housing Authority to undertake 2 consultacy agreements in inspection of precast concrete structural elements produced off-site. The scope of work include auditing of the factories, inspecting of the products and survelliance testing of materials.
