Jacobs has, over the years, been engaged to develop new land areas for developments of various types. This has brought together our skills in marine work, geotechnical enginering, water, drainage and public health to create the formation and infrastructure for these developments.

Client: Atkins China Ltd., for Territory Development Department

Jacobs were appointed as the civil and marine subconsultant responsible for the detailed design of marine works associated with the 32 ha site of Central Reclamation Phase III. Marine Traffic Impact Assessment was carried out, including the impact of the staged construction on existing ferry and private craft operations within and adjacent to the reclamation area, the effect of reclamation on existing and future traffic in the Victoria Harbour. Extensive ship simulations of the Star Ferry vessels were undertaken. Detailed design included the reclamation phasing considering methods to minimizing settlement and dredging, repositioning of the two Star Ferry piers including the proposed development above the piers, two new public landing step piers and seawalls incorporating unique low wave reflection characterisitics.

Client: Secan Ltd

Jacobs provided civil, geotechnical and trunk services engineering consultancy services for this major residential development housing 32,000 people at Ap Lei . The development covers 20 hectares and includes 12,500 sq.m. of land reclamation. A total of 34 housing blocks of 30 to 40 storeys were provided, together with two commercial centres. The infrastructure included a roll-on/roll-off ferry berth, cable-stayed bridge, and central underground seawater pumping station.
