Client: Mass Transit Railway Corporation

Jacobs working in a joint venutre are the structural and civil engineer for the design of two stations on the MTRC's Extension to Tseung Kwan O. The sites are closely enclosed by high rise developments and this has affected the structural design of the stations significantly.

Jacobs provided an alternative design to the cut and cover tunnel. The tunnel consists of single and double and stepped cells totalling more than 2km long. The alternative design involves the complete redesign of the bored pile and diaphragm wall foundation works, the structural redesign of the box structures as well as necessary culvert and traffic diversion works. As part of the alternatives, a small length of bored tunnel was also designed.

Client: Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation

The Mass Transit Railway Corporation's (MTRC) Lantau and Airport Railway passess through a 250m length of a closed landfill site at Kwai Chung Park.

In a cutting up to 17m deep, the works comprise four tracks of the Lantau and Airport Express Lines (LAL and AEL), with an additional two diverging tracks of North West Lines (NWL) to permit future extension of the rail network to the North West New Territories. The individual tracks have varying vertical and horizontal alignments and are carried by separate viaducts with typical spans of 30m. The viaducts are supported on reinforced concrete piers and pilecaps that rest on large diameter (2.2m) bored piles, up to 60m long.

Client: Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation

Appointed by the Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation to undertake the design of the interchange station at Tai Wai for the new Ma On Shan (MOS) Railway line with the existing East Rail (ER) line.

Jacobs, in joint venture with Halcrow Asia Partnership, has designed and is currently supervising the construction of this gateway station.



SCL - 200 Shatin to Central Link, Tai Wai Diamond Hill and East Kowloon Line (Northern Section), Hong Kong

Client: Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation

Jacobs, in joint venture with Mott-Connell, worked on a Preliminary Project Feasibility Study on Tai Wai to Diamond Hill line (TDL) and East Kowloon Line (EKL), sectors of the proposed new railway.

Jacobs provided the Chief Design Manager and Design Coordinator and was responsible for the design of soft ground tunnel section, the structural design of the stations, and overall constructability and programming for the scheme.
